More

Since the first festival took place in 1991, Ultima has developed into one of the leading festivals for contemporary music in Europe. One of Ultima’s primary objectives is to contribute to offering a broad representation of the contemporary music genre, combining a keen interest in innovation and an awareness of tradition in its program and profile. Another objective is to promote Norwegian performers and composes while being internationally directed.

Ultima is organized as a foundation where 18 of Norway’s central cultural institutions and organisations are members. Ultima takes place over 11 days every year.

Ultima was given the status of node institution by the Ministry of Culture Affairs in 2006 and is thereby regarded as an important festival in Norway. Ultima is publicly financed by the Ministry of Culture Affairs (60 %) and Oslo Municipality (40 %).
