Darshan

Darshan by Kim Atle Hansen. In Darshan by Kim Atle Hansen we met two young women coming to an audition. One of them, in body of Camilla Puccini, was dark and presented as elegant and attractive. The other, in the body of Charlotte Grundt, was blonde and acted more recklessly in gender-neutral clothes.

The title Darshan is from Sanskrit, and means among other things «vision» and, in Hinduism, «to catch a glimpse of the divine».

In the review by IdaLou Larsen the following text passage describes the development in Darshan by Kim Atle Hansen:

"In a determining sequence the two change personalities. But when the audition is over they are both told there is no use for either of them. Suddenly the text by Kim Atle Hansen finds a new direction, now it is not just about the need to be seen, but about a more existential examination of the human being who can only exist in interaction with others. When the two women have been rejected they transform into lifeless automats put in a pile by a disillusioned director. Dressed in female underwear he presents an end monologue about the physiology of the eye and the self-betrayal of people: A grotesque and desperate sequence adding an unexpected tragic dimension to this odd performance."

Darshan was the second direction project by Kim Atle Hansen after graduating from The Norwegian Theatre Academy in Fredrikstad (Østfold College University). In the program from Black Box Teater one could read that the production offered pompous musical theatre in a minimalist form.

Darshan by Kim Atle Hansen was supported by Arts Council Norway and The Fund for Performing Artists.

Press coverage

"Darshan is an original, independent and meaningful attempt. Kim Atle Hansen has something different to say. He still is far from his aim, scenically it often limps, the switches between song and text don’t work well, and there are dead zones. But Darshan also has a searching and intense sobriety compensating for the weaknesses and the three performers are impressively self-disclosure."
