Adishatz/Adieu

Adishatz/Adieu is a production by French Jonathan Capdevielle. Jonathan Capdevielle has been an enthusiastic imitator since his teens. He used to memorise well-known pop songs and to perform with them.

In Adishatz/Adieu Jonathan Capdevielle reappears with some transsexual Madonna imitations he made for Tanz im August Berlin Dance Festival in 2007, mixed with other hits plus songs from the Pyrenees.

Adishatz is a local dialect word from Gascony meaning both hello and goodbye. Adieu means farewell.

Adishatz/Adieu by Jonathan Capdevielle has developed in autobiographical direction, a montage of songs and family conversations. Backed by a professional choir these a cappella interpretations of international and local songs carry the main theme, which is a private confession. The production reveals the vulnerability, loneliness and the fragility of a province child who is dreaming of being a great artist driven by an unknown force.

If Jonathan Capdevielle dresses in glitter and poses the way of a disco queen, it is to tell the story about an individual who is both female and male, past and presence, child and adult, a person from Tarbes and an incarnation of a dream. This compilation of opposites makes Jonathan Capdevielle an ambivalent person one can find fascinating.

Adishatz/Adieu by Jonathan Capdevielle wants to be entertainment touching the spectator, and an example of how seemingly superficial and well-known songs can convey honest, deeply personal thoughts.

Jonathan Capdevielle has performed in all of Gisèle Vienne’s productions since the two first met at the puppetry school École Supérieure Nationale des Arts de la Marionnette. In the critically acclaimed Jerk he demonstrated his talents for acting and puppetry in the same production.
