Grimfilm is a production company, mainly focusing on stop-motion animation and illustration. It was started in 2004 by Elin Grimstad, and has so far mainly produced animation films for theatre and puppet theatre. She works individually, as well as inviting other artist into projects.
Stylistically Grimfilm uses the quirky and tactile quality of cut-out animation. All the films are hand drawn and animated by hand on multiglass table. They hope to communicate a sense of intimacy, playfulness and spontaneity in their expression.
Grimfilms last production was the musical theatre show for children about space, Universet.
Both the music and the animation took strong inspiration from 1960s
Childrens TV, especially Oliver Postgates work.
Elin was the artistic director for the production, as well as directing the animation and video work. She is also on of the actors on stage. The premiere for UNIVERSET was at Det Åpne Teater, Oslo, March 2009.
In the autumn of 2008 Grimfilm made animations and illustrations for the puppet theatre show Barnas Wergeland, Oslo Nye Teater.
In 2006 Grimfilm made animation for the theatre production Shockheaded Peter.
The production was based on the children book with the same name, and was a cooperation between Boa Scenekunst and Figurteateret i Nordland.
