Universet* (The Universe)

Universet - eit musikkspel med animasjon* (The Universe – a musical play with animation) by Elin Grimstad had its world wide premiere in The Open Theatre (Det Åpne Teater) in March 2009. Universet was a performing arts project in which animation and music played an important part in the creating of wonder and communication about the universe.

The performance Universet* (The Universe) by Elin Grimstad is about Tommy who wants to understand. And with the audience he asked questions: What is a shooting star? Why does the moon shine? What is really The Big Bang? He wants to go there. To race around, visit stars and planets, moons and galaxies. Underway the audience experiences poetic, scientific and humorous stories about space and humans. The audience got to meet Laika the dog, the moon and some space creatures called Flaskefutteralar (literally: Bottle Cases)!

All animated film in Universet was hand-drawn and animated on a glass table. The music found sounds and moods from the outer limits of our galaxy.

Universet by Elin Grimstad was supported by The Norwegian Film Institute, The Audio Visual Fund, Arts Council Norway and The Fund for Performing Artists.
