Teater Visuell expresses itself through figures (puppets and objects) creating visual images, at times without the use of words. Often it is worked with particular issues as short sequences reflecting the inner process.
Puppetry focuses on the dead and the alive and thus the existential questions. It stands beyond normality, can juggle with independence and make us forget the obvious. It can show us mirrored reflections, dream images or fake images – of ourselves. The visual is the central.
Teater Visuell is the smallest theatre in Norway measured in size of venue. The venue is called Stillverk 1. Originally Stillverk 1 was an old control tower at the Trondheim railway. Now it is one of the most special theatre venues in the country. In the little tower is a small foyer with chandeliers and marionettes hanging from the roof. Winding stairs goes upwards to the location where Annika Udo performs for a small audience. There is only room for 24 spectators and seats can be hard to get. The schools near the railway track are invited to train tours. The local train can stop in all the small stations on the way to Trondheim and brings the little children on a railway journey to the smallest theatre there is. The pupils exit at the last station and follow the old pedestrian walkway between the railway tracks and the canal. Here they are met by the theatre manager and led upstairs in the tower – and the performance can begin!
All productions are available for touring outside the venue of Teater Visuell.
