Types of materiale

The head of Moomintroll was shaped from Styrofoam, fortified with cotton gauze and glue, and drawn with knitted, coarse wool. The body was also made from Styrofoam, and drawn with the same knitted wool material.

The intention was to make the puppet as similar to the illustrations in the book as possible.

The information has been provided by puppet maker Kari Noreger.

Construction/technique

Moomintroll was a rod puppet, with a round rod fastened to his head, and with a steering rod by piano string fastened to each of his hands, so that the puppeteer would be able to move them. The puppeteer held onto the prolonged part of the round rod. In other words, the puppeteer's hand was inside Moomintroll's body.

Information has been provided by puppet maker Kari Noreger.
