The Events

At the webpage of Brageteatret the following, among other things, is written about The Events:

"The Events questions how far forgiveness stretches in the meeting with evil. In the main parts we find Heidi Gjermundsen Broch and Rolf Kristian Larsen, who in collaboration with different local choirs tell a story of tragedy, obsession and our destructive urge to understand what is not possible to understand.

A female priest works to integrate immigrants in the local community. Among the efforts is managing a choir, in which everyone who wants to may take part. A boy comes to a choir practice one day, but he doesn't sing. She doesn't think much of it, everyone is welcome anyway. But when the boy returns at a later time, he pulls out a gun and starts shooting people. After this shocking event the priest wants to understand how the boy could do such an awful thing. In her search she simultaneously unravels her own life. This is a piece about the shortcomings of empathy, about how a society heals its wounds and how to move on after such a horrifying event."

At each venue Brageteatret collaborates with local choirs, the way it was also done when Ramin Gray directed the British production of The Events in 2013.
