Maurora was performed on television by Tora Dietrichson

Maurora exists both as a TV puppet and as a theatre puppet. Maurora has also been made into a soft toy for general sale, and appears as a character in books and games based on "Fantorangen’s world", produced on licence from NRK.

Types of materiale

Maurora’s head and body are made of foam. The surface material is stretch velvet in a burgundy red colour. The arms and legs are thin. Maurora’s wings and skirt are in nuances of pink and yellow, and are made of pineapple fibre.

Maurora’s head is well-proportioned in relation to the body, with clearly feminine characteristics. The eyes are large and black, made of glass. Two long antennae are fixed to the top of the head. The arms are thin, and the hands, each with four fingers, are relatively large,

Construction/technique

Maurora is categorised as a muppet, with a large movable mouth. The performer controlls the mouth with one hand and the arms/hands (which have rods fixed to them) with the other. The legs can hang loosely, or they may also be controlled with rods. Do do this, two performers are needed. Maurora is constructed to be performed either vertically or horizontally (flying).

Other

In 2024, Fantus moved to the puppetry stage in the play «Fantorangen på teater» ("Fantorangen at the Theatre"), written in collaboration with Oslo Nye Teater. The piece was performed at Oslo Nye Trikkestallen and on tour with The Norwegian Touring Theatre. Two sets of theatre puppets of Fantorangen, Fantus, Pivi and Maurora were made for this production. The puppets were created by Anna Granberg and Anna Marie Heinsdatter (The Norwegian Touring Theatre) and consultant Christina Espedal (NRK).
