Teaterfigur
Teaterfigurer, bedre kjent som teaterdukker, har spilt på norske scener i generasjoner, til stor glede for publikum i alle aldersgrupper.
Quote from the playbill for the 2005 production:
"The familiar fairytale about the swanling which is harassed and outcast from the duck skein because it is different, never stops fascinating us. In our production, we let the action take place in H. C. Andersen's writing room, where he, aided by his housekeeper, cut-out figures, quill, furniture and more, lets us take part in the creation of this fairytale, perhaps not all that different from aspects of the writer's own life."
The role of The Ugly Duckling was played by Marianne Edvardsen and Hans Rønningen.

The sharp-edged form of the duckling was cut out of Styrofoam and fortified with cotton gauze and wood glue. The facial expression was made with two eyes, with glass pupils, and a solid beak.
The whole puppet was drawn in textile, with a knit and purl pattern. The colour was beige.

The most important part of the construction of the duckling was the neck, made from a metal structure, possibly stemming from a small lamp. It could be placed into different positions. The puppet was moved directly by the puppeteer's hands. The duckling was shaped so that it could sit on a table or another surface without being held by a puppeteer.

In this production, the puppeteers were also actors. The interaction between the puppet and the performers has been described as careful, sensitive and imaginative.
The puppeteer Marianne Edvardsen has provided important information about this puppet.
