Types of materiale

The head of the puppet Thor was cut from Styrofoam or another light-weight isolation material, which is easy to form. The surface was fortified with cotton gauze and wood glue. Thor's face was pear-shaped and his mouth was wide. The puppet had a movable chin, and red tufts of beard hung from it. The small eyes were almost hidden beneath his helmet.

The materials used for this puppet were mostly boiled wool or felt. Thor wore a vest over a woolen top. The rest of his costume is not visible in the photos. His arms were made from rope, covered with boiled wool. His hands were also sewn from boiled wool.

Construction/technique

Thor was likely constructed with a rod in his head, prolonged to his chest area. There was likely an opening in the back of the costume, so that the puppeteer could grab hold of the puppet and steer it. Thor's chest area was large, and it was likely made from Styrofoam (to limit the weight of the puppet), with some strong points from wood glued to it, to fasten parts to.

The puppeteer moved the hands and arms of the puppet by grabbing hold of them with his own hands. The rest of the time, the arms hung loose and moved with the movements of the body. There may have been short steering rods fastened to the puppet's elbows, but this is not confirmed.
