From the production From Jul med Prøysen og Snekker Andersen* (Christmas with Prøysen and Carpenter Andersen), Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre)

The mouse mother and children were puppets in Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre)'s production Jul med Prøysen og Snekker Andersen* (Christmas with Prøysen and Carpenter Andersen), based on Alf Prøysen's Christmas story The Night Carpenter Anderson Bumped into Santa Claus. It was adapted for puppetry by Stein Kiran. Christian Egemar made the original stage design, Kari Noreger created the puppets, and Stein Kiran directed the production. It was first performed December 1991 at Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre)'s puppetry venue.

More

Jul med Prøysen og Snekker Andersen* (Christmas with Prøysen and Carpenter Andersen) has become a classic at Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre)'s puppet theatre. It has been performed near annually, most recently the Christmas of 2019. This will likely not be the last time for it. After the death of Christian Egemar, Per Horn took over the responsibility for the stage design, and developed it.

Stein Kiran was employed as a puppeteer at Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre) in 1984, at the same time as Per Skjølsvik. Kiran took over the artistic responsibility for the theatre's puppet theatre in 1994.

Sceneweb refers to the other puppets registered from the production. These are Santa's children, Santa's wife and Carpenter Andersen.

Types of materiale

The heads of the mouse mother and her children were likely shaped from plastic foam. The heads were covered by a soft and fluffy fabric, which was also used for the bodies. The puppets had large, clear black eyes and ears to give them different looks. Two female mice wore skirts and a male mouse a pair of pants with braces.

Construction/technique

These simple rod puppets had rods fastened to their heads and through their bodies. The prolongation of the rods made up steering handles for the puppeteers. The puppets' arms hung loose and moved with their bodies. It is likely that the mice had legs, which could be moved from pockets beneath the soles of their feet, like Santa's family in the same production.
