At the webpage of the Peer Gynt festival the following, among other things, is written about Peer Gynt:

"Ibsen's dramatic poem follows the farmer's son Peer from his early twenties until old age. This year's version will promote just this long journey of a life, as the actors Jakob Oftebro and Nils Ole Oftebro share the title role, a division of labour never before used at Gålå. Extra special is it that the father and the son share a stage for the first time just here, at the outdoors arena by the lake of Gålå.

We meet Peer for the first time during the 1960es as a twenty-year old boy, and follows him through five acts, ending in our own time and day. Together, Jakob and Nils Ole will provide us with a story of a life that is lived, but perhaps not experienced? Peer's ability to always 'go around' indicates that the answer to this question is rather tragic on Peer's part. With the actors and the artistic team, a universe is created, underlining that Peer's life is a castle in the air. Peer makes endless attempts at leading a rich and significant life, but never completes his attempts. He lives in a fairy-tale, an unfinished Gyntiana."

Press coverage

Lillian Bikset, Peers indre splittelse gis underholdende ytre form (literally: Peer's internal breach is given entertaining external form), Dagbladet August 5 2017:

"How much of what happens in Peer Gynt is external action, and how much is visualisation of Peer's internal life? In Sigrid Strøm Reibo's direction at Gålå, the answer is that there is most of the latter. The text has been processed by Njål Helge Mjøs, who was also the dramaturge for Erik Ulfsby's production of Peer Gynt the same place. He has thus been able to develop his ideas of the play over several years. This year's Gynt at Gålå builds on many of the same thoughts behind Ulfsby's, but expressed in an utterly different form. Reibo and Mjøs put the emphasis on Peer's inner life, his internal doubt and internal struggle (a word that is also used in the performance, in a tiny tease of another self-focused Norwegian). This in no way means that there is a lack of external action, but that the external action conveys the internal."
