"Winston Smith is a lowly functionary in the Ministry of Truth, revising the history according to current regulations. Because his memory still functions, he constitutes a threat to the authorities. When he also gets in touch with the resistance, he senses the opportunity to fell the tyranny. But who is to be trusted, when the individual doesn't exist?
The dystopian 1984, written in the shadow of World War II, is regarded among the great classics of science fiction, and has long been used to point out the dangers of high technology information society. At the same time, the play tells us about manipulation, the individual's place in community, and the importance of maintaining one's self.
The classic topped best-selling lists when USA changed presidents in January.
Director Kristina Kjeldsberg lets her interest in society be a driving force in her artistic work, but is not afraid of the emotional.
1984 is a claustrophobic thought-experiment about surveillance, identity and control."
