Brageteatret celebrated The Norwegian Year of Cultural Diversity with its own version of the fairytale about Cinderella. With 34 performers onstage and as many backstage, this was one of the largest productions by the theatre during its history, only beaten by the outdoors production Hallvards valg* (Hallvard's choice). It was also the start of giving the open market a greater priority, aiming for a broader audience.
The production was a modernised, newly adapted version of the familiar fairytale, with themes and performers from different corners of the world.
Cinderella works hard as usual, and when the prince in the castle is ready to marry, her stepsisters travel there to try to win him and a future of glamour. Poor and isolated, Cinderella dreams of the beautiful prince and a better life. But she doesn't know how to get to the castle, and she has no pretty dress to wear. This is when her good helper shows up. He knows what to do, and suddenly, Cinderella's dream might come true! He brings Cinderella along on an exciting journey across several continents, and they must go through many trials before they reach the castle, where Cinderella wins the prince. Now, she has reached her goal. She did wish for a better life. But was this what she had dreamt of? And who is really the prince of her dreams?
