In Nordland Theatre's annual report for 1989, the following, among other things, is written about Mio, My Son:
"By using mechanical devices, projections, shadow theatre, masks, music and hand-painted slides of more than 200 metres in length, the actors had entirely different possibilities for expressing themselves than they would in any realistic performance.
Springing out from late renaissance/early rococo and assisted by expressive direction, the theatre presented a highly driven theatrical expression, something in the way of the 20th century's renaissance theatre."
