"Mother, father and two sons. We meet the small family in the haggard hotel they run in Skåne. Inventory is to be made, and David is turning 16. Throughout some disturbing 24 hours a network of lies unroll, and in an unmistakable Norén universe, scenes that could only exist within the most intimate of all places play out: The home.
In 2014 one of the greatest living Nordic playwrights, Lars Norén, turned 70 years. Norén is the actors' playwright, glass-clear in his insight and brutal in his use of the theatre's effects. The autobiographical play Night is mother to the day became his great dramatic break-through and already it has the status of a modern classic. The play is directed by Kjersti Horn, who has made her mark with several courageous productions in recent years, characterised by her strong social involvement. She is also one of three directors in residence at The National Theatre the next four years."

"They go through each their desperate emotional process, with unevenly portioned outbursts of introversion and acting out, aggression, unease, nervousness, frustration, self-pity, mistrust, fear, simulated care, simulated discipline, denial, hope, declarations of love, nostalgia, simulation of nostalgia with the purpose of manipulating, pessimism, disappointment, yearning, use of violence and hysteria. The four different processes give the production an unpredictable intensity. It becomes like a continuous kitchen grinder of hardships."
"The way I understand it Kjersti Horn and stage designer Sven Haraldsson want to recycle theatre forms that have made a similar claim to authenticity as Norén, during the decades in-between. (…) Terje Strømdahl is a parchment-yellow shell, and gives a strong image of the father's self-contempt, whereas Ellen Horn gives the mother a 'situational blindness'. But they seem less familiar with the expression than the younger actors. Glenn André Kaada and Emil Johnsen. The use of video contributes to giving the performance a jagged rhythm, while the spectators become zappers wherever we direct our glances."
