Mater Nexus
Mater Nexus was a theatre production produced by Stockholm City Theatre in 2002, based on the play by Lene Therese Teigen.
Åsa Kalmér directed it.
The production opened at the venue called Klarascenen in April 2002, but was transferred to the main stage in August the same year, where it was performed for a run of more than half a year.
Mater Nexus is about the great issues of life: Love, career, the parenting role, illness and death. What do we expect from life? What is succeeding and what is being happy?
The stage text was developed over a three year long period, including in workshops at The Open Theatre (Det Åpne Teater) with a total of 25 involved actors.There are 13 female roles in the text, and since the opening in 2001 it has also been produced in Stockholm, Helsinki, Gothenburg and Tokyo. University papers have been written about Mater Nexus, at The University of Oslo and The University of Bergen.

"Not a single man onstage, but thirteen women of which probably half are past 40. The last time one saw anything remotely like it, must have been when Jösses flickor (Good God Girls) was an audience success in 1974. Far between the times, in other words, but The City Theatre proves that the entirety of life can fit into a single-gendered ensemble, even though it consists of women. This is not un-sensual, dull theatre and the men of the audience need not feel excluded. Rather the opposite, they are included - seen, longed for and lovingly made fun of, with their variety of characteristics in a way it would be hard to imagine for women in a single-gendered male play."

"[...] Here thirteen women circle themes regarding mothers and motherhood more or less weighed down by guilt and lack of coherence. The dominant mother Berit is a spider of the night, and sisters, daughters and girlfriends are all more or less involuntarily caught in her web. In addition they weave their own webs, connecting generations. The web is intricate, rich in nuances and subtle, but yet beautifully constructed by writer and director."
