NO-projects by Impure Company/Hooman Sharifi is an installation aspiring to involve the spectator without demanding him/her to be physically active. The performer puts a text in an overhead projector and begin a solo lasting for 20 minutes.
The texts are written by the avant gardist novel writer and playwright Peter Handke and the influential semiotic and critic Roland Barthes, and the involvement by the spectator is about how he/she reads the text, understands it and links it to the movement seen. The movement material doesn’t illustrate the text but is generated by it. The aim is opening a room between the text and the movement.
Norwegian-Irani Hooman Sharifi is considered as one of Norway’s most important choreographers. His works are characterised by intense energy, strong will and political content. Impure Company was established in 2001 and is an internationally touring company established in Norway. Among other things, the company has visited important festivals such as ImpulsTanz in Vienna, Baltoscandal in Rakvere, André Lepecki’s Transit festival, Springdance in Utrecht, Atelier REAL/Joao Fiadeiro and Cena11. NO-projects had its world wide premiere in Frankfurt in May 2009.
NO-projects was supported by Arts Council Norway, the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant/performing arts).
In Avant Garden NO-projects was part of the performance series Norsk Sandwich (literally: Norwegian Sandwich) the spring of 2010.
