At the webpage of Oslo International Theatre the following, among other things, is written about Headcase:
"Lena enjoys the great success of her paintings, while she is convinced that her career is about to be ruined, if the world gets to know that she is paralysed from the neck down and paints with her mouth.
Headcase is an unsentimental and humorous play daring to break radically with social conventions. Our attitudes towards the handicapped are put on the agenda. The play also discusses how Lena's fear and need for control affect the lives of the people around her. Headcase won the Dutch-German youth theatre award in 2008."
Since her debut in 2000 Esther Gerritsen has quickly become a popular novel and short story writer with titles including TussenEenPersoon (Between One Person) and Normale dagen (Ordinary Days), and the recent years she has made her mark as one of the leading Dutch playwrights. She has received several awards as a writer and playwright, including the Dif/BGN award and the grant of Charlotte Köhler.
