Sampo Lappelill by Klomadu Theatre builds on a Sami fairytale told using puppets, masks, objects and storytelling. In Rastegaissa all the animals use to gather every year to celebrate the party of the sun. But up on the mountain the mountain king threatens them with eternal dark and winter. Sampo riots against Hiisi, but has to escape. During his flight he is helped by the good goddesses Sarakka, Joksakka and Oksakka, and he eventually returns to his people bringing the sun party as a gift.
Sampo Lappelill by Klomadu Theatre has been performed more than 400 times in kindergartens and schools, over large parts of the country. The production was selected to compete for best theatre production for children by ASSITEJ and is still part of the company’s repertoire in 2011.

Geir Vestad, date unknown, Hamar Arbeiderblad [Hamar]:
"Aided by pure and simple, but efficient effects Klomadu Theatre transforms a gym to a faraway, exotic landscape in which the eternal powers – light against dark – clash. A special challenge is how to present the dark forces openly onstage without having them lose their mysterious and mythical traits. With the help of stylised masks, Klomadu Theatre manages to maintain the mystery and the excitement of the play. First of all Sampo Lappelill is a dreadfully exciting affair. As impressive in its seemingly simplicity the development of the main character Sampo from wild young boy to a mythical hero is presented."
Idalou Larsen, date unknown, Nationen [Oslo]:
"This way to tell a story is here so successful it is afterwards hard to remember when the puppets took over and the actors became storytellers. (...) Instructor Gundersen and the two actresses Karen Høie and Nina Engelund use eclectic and very controlled effects."
