Peer Gynt by Teater Fusentast (Scatterbrain Theatre) AKA Theatre Fusentast asks: In our world of madness – is Peer the craziest – or?
Imagine that your father drinks and your mother despairs, and you are harassed for it. If these are the circumstances, a friend is a good thing. One who sees you for who you are, not just the fibs you surround yourself with.
The dream weaver Peer lives like he lies. No wonder he has to stand up against the village he lives in, against the mob, an Arab gang of thieves, monsters and trolls. He wins over the devil, he wins over death. Can he win over himself? Stop lying? Is it too late to start over? Become how Solveig has proved he really is? Is it possible?
Henrik Ibsen started his theatre career by performing puppetry at the home farm of Venstøp. His Peer Gynt, England’s Punch, Italy’s Pinocchio, The Netherlands’ Jan Klaassen, France’s Guignol and Northern Europe’s Kasper are to a large degree similar. Unfortunately for Peer and Ibsen, Norway has no such puppetry tradition.
Like the travelling artists of the Medieval period, the company visited schools, libraries, cultural centres, festivals, markets, parks, institutions, prisons, lawns and nightclubs with the production.
Peer Gynt by Teater Fusentast (Scatterbrain Theatre) AKA Theatre Fusentast was supported by the Ministry of Culture and The Audio Visual Fund.
