Rough Trade

Rough Trade by Grenland Friteater was the narration about Hertingen, a railway worker, a sailor, an iron worker, a communist and a drunkard. It was retold by his not always reliable colleague Marthon Danielsen. Rough Trade was based on Kjartan Fløgstad’s novel Fyr og Flamme (Fire and Flame).

More

Rough Trade by Grenland Friteater was the story of the growth of Norwegian industry and the way it made its mark on society throughout the past century. The audience was allowed to take part in the story of Hertingen, roaming from the barracks of Rjukan to a rural farming community in the West, from working on the railways to the Spanish civil war, travelling from Røldal to Herøy.

Rough Trade was a folkloric and ambitious performance, benefiting of a wide spectre of effects; raw humour, political agitation, ballads and rock’n roll, mass scenes and monologues.

Rough Trade was a main event for Grenland Friteater. It was performed for the third and last time in 2002 in Porsgrunn. The whole artistic ensemble of the theatre participated along with a number of freelancers, local amateurs, the technical crew and Ratataboo. All in all approximately 50 participators.
