Hilde og Erhart* (Hilde and Erhart)
Hilde og Erhart* (Hilde and Erhart) is a production by Theatre Nova after a text by Birte Svatun, inspired by three plays by Henrik Ibsen.
Simone Thiis directed it.
Hilde is the lonely, vulnerable and eccentric girl of Henrik Ibsen’s The Lady from the Sea (1888) and The Master Builder (1892). Erhart is the son who attempts to liberate himself from his parents to live his own life in John Gabriel Borkman (1896). While Hilde longs for love, Erhart longs for freedom. In Hilde og Erhart the two young persons meet and the story is told with their voices.

Hilde og Erhart* (Hilde and Erhart) by Theatre Nova is set in a contemporary gym, where Hilde and Erhart meet.
Ibsen’s drama is dizzyingly timeless, and the challenges Hilde and Erhart face, are the same as youth of today stand in front of:
*Liberation from the family
*One’s own needs against the parents’ need and wishes.
*Duties and ties.
*The relationship to a stepfather or stepmother.
*Family secrets.
*Mourning and longing.
*Joy of living and the power of living.
While Hilde grows up with a distant father, doctor Wangel, and a stepmother, Ellida, who always wishes she were someplace else, Erhart is in a situation in which his parents and an aunt cling ruthlessly to him. As a child he has to respond to their every need and longing for power, love and revenge.
