Teater Rundt-Omkring

Teater Rundt-Omkring (1975-1991) was established by Sigurd Lysbakken and Jens Remfeldt in 1975, springing out from the student community studying theatre theory at The University of Bergen.

The company is by several sources named as the first independent, professional performing arts company in Bergen, and, like other companies at the same time, toured expansively. The company also participated in several TV programs, in additions to festivals abroad.

The name, Teater Rundt-Omkring, means Theatre Around-and-About.

Teater Rundt-Omkring performed theatre for children, often in non-traditional venues, and combined puppetry, pantomime and theatre, in productions inviting the children to create the performance.

Even though the company mostly produced theatre for children, they also performed for youth, and in particular the farce Kjærlighet* (Love) was critically acclaimed. The pieces the company performed aimed to "...give positive experiences of what it is to live together, work together and be part of a community, rather than oppose one another. In an adult world these topics could be recognised as 'politics', and there is no doubt Teateret Rundt Omkring belongs among the companies conscious of their own political function". (Quote from Fjeldstad, Anton, Gruppeteater i Norden (literally: Company theatre in the Nordic countries), 1981).

The company could perform as much as 200 performances annually, indicating that some of the members worked full-time for the company. Teater Rundt-Omkring was dissolved in 1991.
