Green Ginger has for more than two decades developed a flexible repertoire of street theatre as well as other theatre performances. They are characterised by an absurd and intelligent sense of humour, interspersed with a good portion of British understatement.
Terry Lee was the founder of the company. Lee has his background from street theatre, where he worked with InterAction, and from TV (Spitting Image) and movies (Jim Henson/Frank Oz). In 1986 the designer and puppetry maker Chris Pirie joined in. Pirie had formerly worked with Industrial & Domestic Theatre Contracts. Six years later Dik Downey was invited to join, bringing his several years’ long experience with Circo Beserko and The Desperate Men to the company.
Green Ginger has worked with mime and puppetry directors such as John Lee, Lucy Gorrel-Barnes, Kevin Brooking and Bim Mason, who have developed the company’s powerful visual profile and their productions have been described as "in the forefront for this (British puppetry) revolution" (by The Guardian).
