The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker is a musical work for ballet by Peter Tchaikovsky, with a libretto by Marius Petipa, composed in 1892. The original title in Russian is Щелкунчик. It has been translated into the Norwegian as Nøtteknekkeren. A large number of choreographers have created choreography to the music. The original choreography was made by Lev Ivanov.
The ballet The Nutcracker is based on E. T. A. Hoffmann's fairytale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Petipa and Tchaikovsky used an adaption of the fairytale by Alexandre Dumas the elder as the basis for their work.
