Alan Lucien Øyen
Alan Lucien Øyen is a choreographer, dancer, director and the artistic director of the company winter guests.
Alan Lucien Øyen began as a dancer, graduating in 2001 from The National Academy of Ballet in Oslo and subsequently joined the Norwegian National Company for Contemporary Dance, Carte Blanche. He went on to work with Amanda Miller's Pretty Ugly dance company in Cologne, Germany, where he also worked as a freelance performer and developed dramaturgy, text and concepts for among others Hooman Sharifi, Robyn Orlin and James Anthony Rizzy.

Alan Lucien Øyen began choreographing and staging his own performances in 2004. In 2006 his company, winter guests was established, and by the end of 2010 he'd completed 12 pieces including 5 commissions for Carte Blanche, Icelandic Dance Company, The Norwegian National Ballet and Skaanes Dance Theatre.
Alan Lucien Øyen's choreographic language is complex and requires technically skilled performers. The work is informed by the world around him which allows him to draw inspiration from a myriad of sources including high art and popular culture as well as personal conversations and experiences - always in pursuit of a sincere and human expression.
Alan Lucien Øyen has won several awards for his choreographic works.
Alan Lucien Øyen is founder and artistic director of winter guests and his work has been generously supported by Arts Council Norway since 2004.
With Andrew Wale he won The Hedda Award 2014 in the best stage text category for the script for Coelacanth, produced by Winter Guests, Bergen International Festival, The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, Carte Blanche and The Norwegian Touring Theatre. The award was the first ever given out in this category.
The Hedda Jury gave the following reason:
"The theatre is assigned to tell stories. How wonderful wouldn't it be to see a performance containing most of what a stage text may room: Reality and fiction, sombreness and humour. In addition close-ups of individuals and insight into the complex interaction between people. And imagine if this story also had room for a story about making this performance, all of it presented with spoken theatre, with dance, and with music and imagination-triggering stage design.
This year's recipient of The Hedda Award in the best stage text category has created just such a bottomless treasure chest, a story for the stage one could wish would never end. The performance is like a journey with unnumbered detours from the itinerary without ever losing sight of the destination.
The best stage text award goes to Alan Lucien Øyen and Andrew Wale."
Besides Coelacanth was nominated for The Hedda Award 2014 in the production of the year category, and Alan Lucien Øyen was nominated for The Hedda Award 2014 in the best direction category for his direction of the production.
