Virginia Woolf – Dønninger av et liv* (Virginia Woolf – Waves from a Life) by Theatre Nova is about the Virginia Woolf.
At the website of Theatre Nova the following, among other things, is written about the production:
"Virginia Woolf belongs to the most daring innovators in the art of writing novels. With humour, poetry and stylistic elegance she described our hidden inner life, examining the relationship between identity, time and consciousness.
Virginia Woolf’s life was about great transitions, a wide field of tension and conflict - in her inner life as well as the outer world. She lived in a time of social and political disturbance and experienced the outbreak of two world wars. She loved the ocean. But she also ended her life in the element of water.
"There is nothing staid, nothing settled in this universe. All is rippling, all is dancing, all is quickness and triumph." Virginia Woolf, The Waves.
In the production Virginia Woolf - dønninger av et liv the audience meets Virginia in her city flat in London of the 1920es. The production is based on her diaries 1922-1930. The music is originally written and is performed by three musicians, who double as the people Virginia Woolf is surrounded by, part of the famous Bloomsbury group Virginia was a central member of.
Many times she wrote about her love for London, urban life, gossip and socialising. She often felt different, an outsider, a more normal feeling than she may have been aware of.
When a person strives to maintain the facade, how is the person behind the facade? The waves went high in the life of Virginia Woolf, and these waves are what the performance aims to show."
Virginia Woolf – Dønninger av et liv opened in Vestfold during the literature festival of November 2002. Virginia Woolf - dønninger av et liv also has been performed in Centralteatret in Oslo.
