At the webpage of The Norwegian Touring Theatre the following, among other things, is written about Hunger:

"Hunger was first published in 1890. It was to become Knut Hamsun's break-through novel and a work initiating a new phase in Norwegian literature. Hamsun describes the physical hunger and the mental pain in the nameless main character in a way that makes it hard for the reader to forget him. Hunger is a classic in modern writing, and it has kept its power to fascinate contemporary readers.

-Who hasn't known the feeling of not quite belonging, or being overlooked by others. With Hunger I want to show how human it is to feel like an outsider, Anders T. Andersen says. He is to direct and adapt Knut Hamsun's classic for The Norwegian Touring Theatre."
