"Everything is about a boy who isn't here. His desk is empty, like an open mouth in the classroom. Vidar is the problem pupil who has been transferred to another school, but his absence makes more of a noise than his presence did.
The class is gathered for a national test, but none of them can concentrate. They all talk about the absent one. Some are sad, and some pretend to be sad. With Vidar, things are complicated. In one moment, he can be nice and cool, in another nasty and threatening. And then the news of a threat of shooting at his new school come in.
This is where it gets truly uncomfortable. What National Test tests isn't the pupils' skills in reading and math, but we, as a nation. What should we do with those who do not fit in, the most vulnerable of all? Will Vidar shoot? Who created the terrorist, the school system, the teachers, and eventually the fellow pupils?"
