"After having brought Nora and A Doll's House into the 21th century, director Audny Chris Holsen has begun battling yet another Ibsen icon. This time, one of his most mysterious women is to be explored.
Hedda Gabler is the female outsider within Henrik Ibsen's writing. As opposed to Nora, Hedda doesn't discuss her negative experiences with anybody, and the gate to the street is not what causes the bang at her exit. Hedda carries a secret.
In the play we meet Hedda as Mrs. Tesman. She recently married Jørgen (George), who has given her the dream house and a fairytale honeymoon, but she doesn't love him. Hedda feels buried alive. What is she to do?
At an external level, Ibsen describes what happens when one marries for the wrong reasons, but at a deeper level, it is about what it means to live and make choices. Ibsen raises universal questions. Who is Hedda and who does she want to be? What happens when a person goes against who she really is, and how dangerous is it, not to be true to oneself?"
