Zapffe
Zapffe (2017) is a theatre production by The National Stage, based on a theatre text by Lennart Lidström, in turn based on the life and writings of Peter Wessel Zapffe. The production had its premiere at the pub Chagall the autumn of 2017, and will be performed in The National Stage's venue Lille Scene in 2018.
Eirik del Barco Soleglad plays the role of Zapffe.

"How to find meaning in the meaningless? Eirik del Barco Soleglad battles with the pessimism and the dark humour of Zapffe, serving a salty mass over human misery. Rarely, the unbearable existence has been handled as funny and as life-denying.
Peter Wessel Zapffe (1899-1990) was a philosopher and a mountaineer and a recognised pessimist. He argued in favour of the end of humanity, and called us 'cosmic concentration camp captives'. Our search for meaning and morals is a mishap, incompatible with nature. Thus, we are sentenced to endless agony. Or? Despite of his fundamental views, or perhaps because of them, Zapffe hailed the little moments of life between nothing and nothing. He insisted on meaninglessness, while filling it with meaning. The counterforce is humour. His presentation of the tragic human being is irresistibly funny and recognisable."
