"In the home of Rita and Alfred Allmers everything seems harmonic, but beneath the surface is another truth. The married couple's neglected son, Eyolf, became partly paralysed when he fell from the changing table while his parents were only interested in each other. Alfred reacts with withdrawing from Rita, and focuses on his paper about human responsibility. When Alfred's half-sister, Asta, arrives at their house for the first time in a long time, she brings an important secret that will test their already troubled marriage. Can they live a life of honesty?
Little Eyolf was published in 1894, and is one of Ibsen's central dramas. The play is both a story of a family losing a child and the mourning to follow, while it is a journey of images through the struggle between desires and shame.
In the competent hands of director Hilda Hellwig, we are led into a universe where both the ingrained divide between individual and society and the human trajectory from guilt to reconciliation are played out in theatrical surrealism, opening towards dreams and magic."
