"Where you come from isn't just a place you haven't chosen. It contributes to making you who you are.
A theatre concert production about getting where you are, not because of, but despite of.
For a long time, Don Martin, Boss Castro and Fela have been central voices within Norwegian rap. In the high-rises in Groruddalen, where they grew up, music and personal lyrics about identity came to. They have all in different ways made rap into their source of income, and hip hop has been a firm point to hold onto all their lives, musically and socially.
Gave voice to the suppressed
Hip hop arouse between the high-rises in Bronx, New York, during the 1970es. This was an explosive subculture created by a suppressed generation of minority youth, living in very poor conditions. Hip hop culture protested social differences, racism, suppression and injustice, and gave young people without a voice the opportunity to tell their stories and be heard."
The production is supported by Arts Council Norway and The Fund for Performing Artists.
