Gob Squad's Kitchen
(You’ve Never Had It So Good)
In Gob Squad’s Kitchen (You’ve Never Had It So Good) by Gob Squad the year is 1965 and everything is about to happen. Pop, subculture, superstars, feminism, drugs, shining lights and sex are about to rock the world more than ever. Gob Squad takes the King of Pop, Andy Warhol, by hand and let him lead the way in a trip back to the underground movie houses of New York, back to the place where it all began.

In Gob Squad’s Kitchen (You’ve Never Had It So Good) by Gob Squad, four actors decide to reconstruct Andy Warhol’s movies Kitchen, Sleep and Screen Test. How can they make it right? How do they know if they make mistakes? How did people dance in 1965? What did they talk about? Had feminism taken place? Was it about to? Gob Squad’s Kitchen is a journey back in time and back to the future. A search for the original, the authentic, what is here and now, the real me, the real you, the hidden depths underneath the gory/shining surfaces of modern life.
Before the performance, audience and actors mingle in a relaxed Factory-like atmosphere. When the performance starts, the actors disappear and some madcap live film recordings can start. This is theatre about how we create icons of others and anonymity of selves. Hence no one in the audience can be sure not to become part of the movie, become an icon of its own. At least in the measured 15 minutes we can dream of. Everything can happen when Gob Squad visits.
Gob Squad is based in Berlin and consists of British and German artists. They excel by steadily discovering new venues; parking lots, factories, hotels and galleries.
