The project Kunst for barn* (Art for Children), in collaboration between Det Åpne Teater (The Open Theatre) and The Norwegian Institute for Children's Literature, was presented with a staged reading of Erna Osland's new play Billy, Lilly og barndommens engel* (Billy, Lilly and the Angel of Childhood)

The purpose of Kunst for barn was developing new stage texts of high quality for children – aimed towards large venues. The wish was to create good alternatives to the well-known classics for children.

Kunst for barn* (Art for Children) has consisted of:

Developing three full-length stage texts for larger venues.

Seminars and interdisciplinary workshops.

Party readings (staged readings of new short texts for children)

In addition have the students at The Norwegian Institute for Children's Literature, the stage design students at The Norwegian Theatre Academy in Fredrikstad (Østfold College University) and a group of playwrights examined the subjects of text, space and action.

The playwrights Liv Heløe, Erna Osland and Andreas Markusson took the challenge and have written each their full-length text.

Erna Osland wrote Billy, Lilly og barndommens engel* (Billy, Lilly and the Angel of Childhood) for Kunst for barn. Osland has written several novels for children and youth. Among her dramatic works Perlepappaen* (The Pearl Daddy), Kva med eit kyss* (What about a kiss?), Slutte å puste* (Stop breathing), Rekneprinsen* (The Calculating Prince).

Liv Heløe wrote Fisk* (Fish) for Kunst for barn, and the play was staged by The National Venue of Theatre in 2009. Heløe has been an actress, at The National Venue of Theatre, the drama division of Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, The National Theatre among other places. As a playwright her first performed text Negressen* (The Negress) (1992). She was a student at the Pilot Project for Playwrights (Oslo National Academy of the Arts) 2001-2003 and she has written Lise L, I dag og i morgen* (Today and Tomorrow), Joachims død* (The Death of Joachim), I en butikk* (In a Shop) among other texts.

Andreas Markusson wrote Hardangervidda øst* (The East of Hardangervidda) for Kunst for barn. Markusson is a playwright with wide experience from theatre, the movies and TV, mainly comedies. Among his dramatic works are Mars & Venus, Johnny and Johanna, Hos Martin* (At Martin's), Båtpuss* (Boat Fixing), Nr. 13* (No. 13), Offshore.
