"December 18 1974 the general assembly made the unanimous decision: Peer Gynt is to be performed the autumn of 1975 with basis in the concept 'Support the culture of the People' and acting in Northern Norwegian dialect. The decision awoke controversy in Norwegian theatre long before the opening. Debates and exchanges of opinion went on for a long time before the premiere. After the premiere, praise came from a majority of critics and theatre colleagues. For the first time, the theatre was invited to perform at the heart of the country's theatre: The National Theatre's main stage. Frode Rasmussen played the role of Peer Gynt. The other roles were interpreted by Tone Gullvåg, Nils Utsi, Sigmund Sæverud, Per Jansen, Bernhard Ramstad, Inger-Lise Westby and Torill Øyen. Arne Skog, Thor Melkild and Erik Ingebrigtsen were extras, with Sverre Kjelsberg. Kjelsberg was responsible for the recently composed music. The director was Stein Winge, the stage designer was Kari Gravklev, whereas Magnar Mikkelsen translated into Northern Norwegian dialect."
