What happens to the human need for art when civilisation falls apart?

Sex i Bagdad* (Sex in Baghdad) was a scenic project about looking towards the war-ridden Iraq with another glance. What exists behind the standardised war images daily presented to us? There is something else there. There are, among other things, love, erotic and beauty. There is a story about a very complex and very fascinating cultural melting pot. There are meeting points across race, politics, sexuality and personal secrets.

A number of artists from Iraq, France, USA and Norway among other countries would in collaboration work forth an intermedial, cross-cultural performance based in The Thousand and One Nights and a fictional meeting between a female American soldier and an Iraqi woman. The work period in Dramatikkens hus was an important stop along the road.

In the flier for Sex i Bagdad in 2012 the following, among other things, was written:

"Sex i Bagdad is about three women in Iraq during war, and it is developed within feminist dramaturgy.

Sex i Bagdad directs another kind of optic towards the war-ridden Iraq. What is behind the bloody images of war we are daily presented to? Behind terror, Islamic extremism and cultural conflicts?

The play emphasises what is notshown in the media, via the three women.

Because there is love, eroticism and beauty. There is a fascinating cultural melting pot, there are meeting points across nationalism, politics, sexuality and personal secrets.

The actors have taken actively part in shaping the play."

Sex i Bagdad was supported by: Arts Council Norway.
