Cavalleria Rusticana

Cavalleria Rusticana (1962) was an opera production by Th Norwegian National Opera. Cavalleria Rusticana was based on an opera in one act by Pietro Mascagni (music) and Giovanni Targioni-Torzzetti and Guido Menasci (libretto) with the same title. The production was performed by The Norwegian National Opera at Folketeateret.

The director was Bengt Peterson; Einar Beyron took over the direction from 1964.

Marit Isene, Aae Nordmo Løvberg and Mirjana Dančuo performed the role of Santuzza.

Charles Holland, Egil Frostmann, Ragnar Ulfung, Lázaro Calderón, Olav Ryan and Arild Eriksen performed the role of Turiddo.

Cavalleria Rusticana was performed together with Gian Carlo Menotti’s one-act opera Amelia Goes to the Ball i 1962  and with Ruggiero Leoncavallo’s one-act opera I Pagliacci i 1964.

In 1968, as part of a performance for young audiences, Cavalleria Rusticana was performed together with the ballet Symphony in C, choreographed by George Balanchine to music by Georges Bizet.
