"Jakoba is early in his teens, and not like other children. He is a boy. Nobody should know. For this is a world of women. Men have been driven out several generations ago, and are now part of a kind of constant guerrilla war against the female community. Jakoba only knows them as distant, mysterious cries from the forest. He is taken out of school, and his mother is overly happy when he is accepted as a student with an acknowledged song pedagogue. He initiates a dangerous relationship to her maid, and feels urges and feelings he had no idea existed, and which he doesn't quite know how to control.
He has always known it is dangerous to be a man, and he now starts sensing how dangerous. But what it takes for him to keep singing, yes, keep living, is something everyone but Jakoba understands.
(...)
The artist and composer Sandra Kolstad stands for the music of The Song Bird, in which music and singing are central elements. In many totalitarian societies singing has an important function as correction. The song can have a clear moral, educating role, and can be a tool for propaganda as well as a glue in singularly aimed cultures."
