The well-known classic is about two hired hands in California during the difficult 1930es, after the financial crash of 1929: The mentally handicapped Lennie and his friend and protector George. The two childhood friends dream of making enough money to find a little place together. They find work at a farm where the owner's daughter-in-law is a beautiful woman, who becomes the reason for the tragedy of the performance. Lennie's urge to cuddle what is soft, and his lack of control over his own strength, leads to him breaking her neck. He is followed by a lynch mob, led by the temperamental farmer's son Curley, the woman's husband, and George chooses to kill his friend himself, rather than leaving him over to the mob.
The production was also performed at Trikkestallen in Oslo in collaboration with Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre).

Gunhild Ramm Reistad, Drammens Tidende, March 1, 2003:
"Trond Birkedal has adapted Steinbeck's book with a careful hand. The two main characters are played with great identification. The simplicity and the bare stage is effectful."
June Marlén Sørensen, Ringerikes Blad, March 1, 2003:
"The opening met all expectations. Brageteatret had chosen a rather special venue for its opening performance. (...) The atmosphere in the prison facilities was excited. Both the employees and the inmates were immersed in the intense action. The actors made a strong effort."
