"A summer day in 1941 in the small Polish town Jedwabne one half of the town's inhabitants murders the other. Several hundred Jews are shut in a barn, before it is set fire to.
This real event was the starting point for Our Class. We follow a school class of Jewish and Christian pupils through their entire lives, from the 1920es, via Soviet and German occupations until after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1935 the state's leader Jozef Pilsudski dies, and the divide between 'the believers' and the Jews is established. The violence against Jews increases. What happens when nationalism, religion and ideology become more important than friendships? When does a classmate become an enemy? This is a story about friendship as well as evil, about Poland's and Europe's history through half a century - and eventually about us all."
