Carte Blanche à la Naharin

Carte Blanche à la Naharin was a dance production by Carte Blanche, with choreography by Ohad Naharin.

Carte Blanche à la Naharin presents two of Naharin’s most characteristic works in full length. After an opening sequence with excerpts from Naharin's Virus (2001) and Passomezzo (1989), the work Zina is performed.

Zina was originally created for Naharin's own company Batsheva in 1995 and had formerly been performed just by Batsheva and the famous Nederlands Dans Theater.

The evening ended with Tabula Rasa from 1986. It is regarded as one of Naharin's best works and has been danced by several of the leading dance companies in the world.

With Carte Blanche à la Naharin Carte Blanche demonstrated that the company is among the absolute leading in Europe.

The choreographer Ohad Naharin has achieved cult status in international dance, particularly after taking over the direction of Batsheva Dance Company in Tel Aviv. The company tours the world. Naharin's works are also danced by several of the leading dance ensembles in the world, such as Cullberg Ballet, Ballet Frankfurt and Nederlands Dans Theater to mention a few.

Camilla Spidsøe won The Norwegian Critics' Award for her efforts in Carte Blanche á la Naharin

Henning Høholt said the following, among other things, in his award ceremony speech on behalf of Norwegian Critics' Association:

"In this performance she is a centre, with an incredibly beautiful charisma, confidence, good timing, musicality and virtuosity, plus in excellent and well-timed interaction.

That the ballet creator Ohad Naharin chose to make the production Carte Blanche á la Naharin is a feather in the cap of the national company for contemporary dance in little Norway. Naharin is sought for all over the world, and he accepts only the best. Still he is far from a prima donna, on the contrary, he is the kind of man who brings with him the unaffected authority of great inner calm.

Further, that Ohad Naharin chose to let this female dancer get such a great, central role in his dance performance is a compliment to this excellent female dance artist, and it most likely gave her the inspiration and possibility to, in the very greatest format to show, what she really is good for*. An assignment she solved to the satisfaction of the audience. She really gave us a totally extraordinarily beautiful experience."

Press coverage

"Spellbinds the audience (...) The 2006 edition of Carte Blanche's cooperation with the choreographer Ohad Naharin is no carbon copy of the lightweight hit parade from 2004, but presents heavier, more subtle works with more seriousness."
