Two (2)
New Numbered Old Shifted
The centre of TWO by karen foss quiet works was conceptually based on the number 2 and its many functions: As a size in mathematics, but also as a phenomena used in cultural contexts, reflected in understandings about harmony/disharmony, symmetry/asymmetry, repeats and reverses, and other imagery basing itself on duality.

Copy, equality, couples, balance, stability, reversing, the opposite, but also the parts that make the two, alone, the shared, the same, the one, and a wealth of dualisms. In music the number two can be associated with the rhythm of a march and the anonymity it provides, as made for soldiers marching in step to kill. Two are more than one, but one and one are not always two.
TWO by karen foss quiet works opened towards a structured space in which an exposition took place. A dry room, if one wants, perhaps a desert landscape, but stable and with a hint of something invisible in the very visible. The desert was apparently harmless in its silence, a place for loneliness, but also a symbol of the outmost spiritual challenge. Perhaps TWO would find its scenic contrast in the desert. Perhaps the performance would find inspiration in one of the greatest poets of world literature, the Persian Hafez, who used the desert as resonance for his tribute to his love, to God and to wine:
the body a tree God a wind
when He moves me like this, like this,
angels bump head with each other gathering beneath my cheeks, holding their wine, barrels
catching the brilliant tear, Pearl
Rain
