The Mailman from Arles

The Mailman from Arles (1977) was a theatre production by The Norwegian Theatre, the Norwegian premiere of a play by Ernst Bruun Olsen. The Mailman from Arles was performed in the venue The Norwegian Theatre used at the time, in Stortingsgaten.

Pål Skjønberg directed it.

Harald Heide Steen played the role of the mailman Roulin. He was given Norwegian Critics' Award for theatre 1977/1978 for his interpretation of the role.

Ole-Jørgen Nilsen played the role of Vincent van Gogh.

The Mailman from Arles is based on the last months of the painter Vincent van Gogh's life. The title refers to his loyal friend, the postal officer Joseph Roulin in Arles. Roulin is the subject of several of van Gogh's paintings.
