King Lear

"Shakespeare's classic is one of the best-known titles in world drama. The legend king Lear chooses to trust his calculating daughters Goneril and Regan's false assurances how much they love him, and exiles the only daughter he can really trust, Cordelia. King Lear's story not just illuminates universal human themes such as greed, blindness and betrayal. It also deals with the importance of family bonds and out vulnerability with these.
One of the foremost and most recognised Shakespeare interpreters in the world, Tim Carroll, has been brought in from London to stage King Lear for The National Stage. Tim Carroll was employed as a director at The Globe in London between 1999 and 2005, and is not just known for his competence in tradition and text, but also for his playful interaction with the classic material. As late as 2012 Carroll staged Twelfth Night in London, with Stephen Fry in one of the main parts. This production was filmed and screened in cinemas all over the world in 2013, including in Bergen. In October 2013 the production transferred to Broadway in New York."
