The Seagull
The Seagull was a theatre production produced by The Norwegian Theatre in 2003, based on the play by Anton Chekhov. The production was performed at the theatre's main stage.
Alexander Mørk-Eidem directed it and was nominated for The Hedda Award 2004 in the best direction category.
Hildegun Riise played the role of Irina Arkadina.
Nicolai Cleve Broch played the role of Konstantin.

"Konstantin is to make his debut as a playwright. Onstage is his girlfriend, Nina. In the audience are his mother, Arkadina, a celebrated actress from Moscow, and her lover, the famous writer Trigorin. The performance is not a success. Konstantin understands that he has to moderate his literary ambitions. Slowly the relationship to Nina breaks up. She is attracted to Trigorin and later she starts an affair with him. In The Seagull, Chekhov proved his distinct perspective on the human mind for the first time.
Chekhov's plays have been characterised as emotional dramas. As opposed to the drama of intrigues, the most common in Chekhov's age, Chekhov lets the plot make the background for the more mundane events. He describes human folly, the courage to live and the failures with tolerant humour and a generous helping of human warmth and insight. In The Seagull, he also touches conflicts between generations. All the characters are at different life stages. They have in common that they have, or have had, great expectations to life. Nothing becomes quite the way they have hoped."
