Fixer

Fixer (2012) was a reading by Oslo International Theatre in collaboration with The Norwegian Theatre, based on a play by Lydia Adetunji.

Fixer is set in Northern Africa. In a small, unspecified country, journalists, human rights activists and businessmen and –women swarm around the fixer Chuks. Why? Because they all think he can put them in touch with the masked, heavily armed men who have set fire to the oil pipe currently under construction through the country. The oil company is very interested in conveying its perspective: That its presence is to the best of the impoverished country. Others think they rob the country of its natural resources in the best colonial tradition.

Chuks fixes stuff, he has his contacts, he knows what journalists want, and he knows how to speak for himself. But is he really able to put anyone in touch with the bandits? And will he sell his services to the oil company, the journalist or the activist?

Oslo International Theatre counts British-Nigerian Lydia Adetunji among the most exciting playwrights within political theatre in Britain. She has been connected to Royal Court Theatre, The National Theatre Studio and The Tricycle Theatre in London.
