Baron von Himmelvlogens luftige reise* (The airy journey of Baron von Himmelvlogen) by Dukkenikkerne follows the principle that “there exists more between heaven and earth”... Baron von Himmelvlogen’s flying machine, for instance. What a vehicle this is! It is a bike with wings, a pedal-driven motor with direct triple injection for spirits, propel and a steering oar one doesn’t need to lubricate. It also has air conditioned side rudders and an automatically erupting lifeboat with a manual foghorn, a weathervane with no sense of direction placed in a funnel gathering rain water, a storm-proof coffeemaker with broiling options, a fishing rod fishing by itself, a foehn wind cooled refrigerator for Danish pastries and a globe with a built-in drinks cabinet with double use as a compass and provider for morning-fresh stimulants.
In Baron von Himmelvlogens luftige reise we learn that it can be smart to bring what one needs for a long journey. When one in addition is searching for one’s childhood friend Captain Wassertrucken, a submarine captain in the Russian navy (by the way, last seen in a Norwegian fiord nearby) one risks having to spend time. . . As a travelling companion the somewhat highfalutin assistant and flight mechanic Count Südenswantzen is in, doubling as a chef, lubricator and map reader. Together they have a tendency to land in the most wondrous of places and in the strangest situations with the flying machine they have constructed on their own.
"If this contraption is accurately made in the fashion of a screw - and you make it rotate fast enough, then the screw will function as a wing and the machine will raise high into the air", Leonardo da Vinci said in the year of 1500.
